I’ve been using cloth baby wipes and solution that I made by myself for few days now. To tell you the truth… I am kind of mad at myself for not doing it before. It is cheap and easy to make, saves tons of money on disposable baby wipes (I used a lot of those), eliminates a lot of garbage, and it is actually cleaning the baby really good.
When I first decided to start using cloth wipes I searched for them online. At Amazon I found that a pack of 15 wipes cost almost $11. I don’t do laundry everyday, and I change a lot of diapers around here, so I knew that I will need much more than 15 wipes. It was just too expansive to order them online or buy in the store.
A trip to the local thrift shop solved this problem.
I noticed that most of the cloth wipes sold online are from flannel, so I purchased this huge flannel sheet for a $1.50. Gotta love the thrift store!
Next, I used this seam ripper to open up all the seams.
Just insert it under the thread and cut it.
Once I finished cutting the thread along the seam, it was cleaning time.
I pulled the thread out and washed the sheet.
Ironing came next.
I only ironed where the seam was to flatten the edges of the sheet so it will be easier to fold and cut.
Once the ironing was done, I folded the sheet in half…
And in half again…
Then I started cutting along the edges of the fold…
To open it.
Now I had four sheets. I folded each one in half and then in half again and kept cutting. Than folded it again and cut along the fold again….
Until I got wipe size sheets. I didn’t have time to count them but I got many! This will be more than enough.
To make the solution, I used 1/4 cup almond oil (you can use baby oil as well), 1/4 cup baby wash, and one cup of water. Added all of those to a spray bottle and… that’s it.
To use, shake the solution, spray it on one wipe and wipe the poop/pee away. It’s really easy. I dump all the dirty cloth diapers and wipes in a pail, at the end of each day I rinse them with water and dump them in a different pail. Every four days I put everything in the washer and use homemade laundry soap to wash it.
Do you use cloth wipes? What kind of solution are you using? Did you make them yourself?
